One victory, more to come. SF Supervisors vote on Tuesday. Please add your voice.

Tonight we won our first victory in the fight to save the Diego and save SFAI. The SF Board of Supervisors Land Use and Transportation Committee voted unanimously to designate the Diego Rivera mural a San Francisco landmark. Tomorrow, the full board will vote on the measure. We’d like to call on you all to attend tomorrow’s Board of Supervisors meeting and to make public comments if you’re able. The meeting begins at 2 PM PST (information below). If you decide to offer public comment in support of the landmark declaration, please prepare a 2 minute statement. Your input is very important. We need everyone to know: the value of art is not tied to its market value. SFAI cannot feasibly survive even if this mural is sold, nor if it is used as collateral for more debt. This board has already unsuccessfully gambled on the institution’s mission and future.

We will still hold our regularly scheduled town hall tomorrow. If our agenda item makes it through the SF’s Board of Supervisors meeting before 7 PM PST, we will meet as planned. If our agenda item is still under consideration at 7PM, we will convene on Zoom immediately following the vote. There we can debrief and plan next steps. Your support is essential. Please join tomorrow and offer your statements in support of declaring the Diego a landmark. Cultural heritage is not for sale.

Thank you.
